How to create a size chart using AI extraction (deep dive)

How to upload a size chart image and let AI extract the data automatically

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Instead of typing your size chart data manually, you can upload an image and let AI extract it for you. This works with screenshots, photos, or any image of a size chart table.

How-to video

Step 1: Open the AI Upload Section

  1. Create a new quiz or open an existing one.

  2. Scroll to the Size Table section.

  3. You'll see the Upload an image of your size table area above the table.

Step 2: Upload Your Size Chart Image

  1. Click the upload area or drag and drop an image file.

  2. Supported formats: PNG, JPG, WEBP.

  3. The image should show a size chart table with size names and measurement values.

Tip: For best results, use a clear, well-lit image where the text is readable. Screenshots from your supplier's website work great.

Step 3: Start Extraction

  1. Once the image is uploaded, click Start Extraction.

  2. The AI will analyze your image and identify sizes and measurements.

  3. You'll see a progress indicator while extraction is running.

Step 4: Review the Extracted Data

Once extraction completes, the data is automatically placed in the size table below. The AI Assistant chat panel appears with a confirmation message.

Review the extracted data carefully:

  • Check that size names are correct (S, M, L, etc.)

  • Verify min/max values match your original chart

  • Confirm the right measurements were detected

Step 5: Refine with the AI Assistant (Optional)

If something isn't quite right, use the AI Assistant chat to request changes. Type a message describing what to fix, and the AI will update the size table directly.

Examples of refinements you can ask for:

  • "The waist values look too high, reduce them all by 5 cm"

  • "Swap the min and max columns for chest"

  • "Remove the XXS row"

  • "Add an XXL size with chest 110-120 and waist 95-105"

Reverting to the Original Extraction

If you've made several chat refinements and want to go back to the original extracted data:

  1. Look for the Revert to original button in the AI Assistant panel.

  2. Click it to restore the data as it was right after the initial extraction.

Tip: You can also edit any cell directly in the size table at any time β€” you don't have to use the chat for small fixes.

Starting Over

If the extraction didn't work well (e.g., the image was blurry or the wrong chart):

  1. Click Start over at the top of the upload section.

  2. Upload a new image and extract again.

Unit Detection

The AI automatically detects whether your size chart uses centimeters or inches and sets the measurement unit accordingly. You can always change the unit manually below the size table.

Tips for Best Results

  • Use body measurement charts β€” SmartSize expects body measurements, not garment measurements. See the Understanding Body Measurements vs. Product Measurements article.

  • Crop the image to show only the size table, not the entire page.

  • Include clear headers β€” charts with visible column headers (Size, Chest, Waist, Hip) extract more accurately.

  • Review every value β€” AI extraction is fast but not perfect. Always verify before saving.
