SmartSize is billed by Shopify, so it appears as a line on your regular Shopify bill. Three things explain almost every question about it.
1. Your SmartSize cycle is 30 days
Your cycle starts the day you approve a plan and restarts every 30 days. It is separate from Shopify's own billing dates.
2. The charge is created at the start of the cycle
At the start of each cycle Shopify creates the charge for the next 30 days, then adds it to your next Shopify bill. Because the two dates are different, a charge usually shows on a bill issued a few weeks after the cycle started.
3. Uninstalling stops future cycles
When you uninstall SmartSize, no new cycles start. The cycle you were already in has its charge created, so that one still appears on your next Shopify bill.
An example
You approved a plan on 16 February, so your cycle restarts on the 16th of every month.
Date | What happens |
16 March | A new cycle starts (16 March – 15 April). Shopify creates the charge. |
20 March | You uninstall SmartSize. No new cycles will start. |
17 April | Your next Shopify bill is issued. It includes the charge from 16 March. |
The date on the bill is not the date of the charge. Next to the SmartSize line, Shopify shows the billing period — that tells you which cycle it covers.
Why a charge can appear later than expected
Sometimes Shopify can't issue a bill for a while — for example after a payment that didn't go through, or while a store is paused or frozen. Shopify then adds the charges that were already created to the first bill it issues once the store is active again. That's why a charge from an earlier cycle can show up a few months later.
Where to see your dates
Your next cycle date: in Shopify, go to Settings → Billing → Subscriptions.
A charge on a bill: in Shopify, go to Settings → Billing, open the bill and look at the billing period next to SmartSize.
💡 Tip: if you plan to stop using SmartSize, uninstall it before your next cycle date so no new charge is created.
