Why do I see a timer or countdown in my pop-up?

Quota limit for free plan users

If your shoppers see a short countdown (e.g., "Please wait 5 seconds…") before the quiz loads, it means your store has exceeded its maximum monthly visitor quota.


What's happening

Every SmartSize plan includes a monthly quota of unique visitors who can receive size recommendations. When your store goes over that limit and you are on Free Plan, the quiz still works — but a brief countdown screen is shown to shoppers before they can access it.

This is not a bug. It's a usage signal that your current plan's quota has been reached.

The countdown message also includes a prompt to contact us — that's aimed at you, the merchant, so you can upgrade your plan and remove the delay for your shoppers.


How to fix it

To remove the countdown immediately:

  1. Open the SmartSize app in your Shopify admin

  2. Go to Home — you'll see a banner alerting you about the quota

  3. Click View Plans and upgrade to a plan with a higher quota

Once upgraded, the countdown disappears instantly — no action needed on your theme or storefront.

How the quota works

A unique visitor is counted once per calendar month, regardless of how many quizzes they complete or products they browse. Quotas reset automatically on the 1st of each month.

You can check your current usage anytime:

  1. Open the SmartSize app

  2. Go to Home

  3. Check the Plan & Usage section
